Hi, I’m Nikki @nikkiholmes4 I’m a huge lover of all things outdoors. I’m from Newcastle so I’m lucky to be close to the coast, The Lake District and Scotland where I love to spend my time.
Hiking and the outdoors has been a part of my life for pretty much all of it. My mam and dad would take me to the Lake District for holidays so I was always up in the hills as a kid. This year I have really started to get out walking more regularly. Getting out into the mountains is one of my favourite activities to help me feel strong not only physically but mentally too. I lost my Dad to cancer just over two years ago and this has been really difficult for me to deal with. Being outdoors helps me to clear my head and to take time out to myself to think about him while greatly improving my health and well-being. It’s also made me realise that life is too short to not do the things you love and make the most of every opportunity.
My biggest challenge so far has to be be going on a solo adventure around South East Asia last year. I completed a 30km trek in the Sapa Mountains. I doubted myself so much thinking I wouldn’t be able to keep up. After finding out the Vietnamese tribes do this walk almost every day I knew I couldn’t quit. So with that in mind and with a tiny bit of complaining about how I sweated my false lashes off, I did it!
I’m also doing the Moroccan 3 peaks this August with a lovely, crazy bunch I have met through Instagram. This will absolutely be the most challenging hiking experience of my life. I’m super excited/pooping my pants!!
The advice I would give to anyone who would like to start hiking would be don’t be afraid to go out and do it. No matter how big or small the climb you should be proud of every step you take. If you’re a solo hiker, don’t be afraid to join hiking groups. Instagram is a great way to meet other like minded people and use social media in a positive way.
Mountains are good for the mind ⛰❤️
Thanks for sharing Nikki, have an amazing time in Morocco 🏔🌍
